SPVT Current Activites  2008

YMCA Demonstration
July 19th, 2008
Senior students from the YMCA and the Full Armour of God demonstration teams both participated in the YMCA Birthday celebration.

Career Day at Riverview Elementary School
May 1st, 2008
Sa Bom Nim Elder Hauger and Mrs. Carlyle attended Career Day at Riverview Elementary School.  They spoke to seven different classrooms (approx. 130 kids) about the art of Soo Bahk Do.  The kids learned how to count to ten in Korean, how to block and punch, and were able to try on a uniform.

After School Enrichment Program
Salem Elementary School
April 9, 16 and 23, 2008
Sa Bom Nim Elder Hauger, Kyo Sa Houpt, and Mrs. Carlyle each taught a Soo Bahk Do Karate class to a group of 20 4th and 5th graders at Salem Elementary School for their after school enrichment program.  The children were able to practice offensive and defensive moves as well as learn about the history, discipline, philosophy and traditions of Soo Bahk Do Karate.

YMCA Bake Sale
March 15th, 2008
Sa Bom Nim Elder-Hauger and several of her students sold home made bake goods for a fundraiser.  We also passed out school flyers and had a photo display for people who were interested in training in Soo Bahk Do.

Mt. Hope Baptist Church Demonstration
February 8th, 2008
Sa Bom Nim Elder-Hauger led 11 of her senior students in a demonstration of Soo Bahk Do techiniques.  Red Belts demonstrated Chil Sun Il Ro and Dan members performed Basai Hyung.  There was also demonstration of basic techiniques and board breaking.  There were around 50 children (8-12 y/o) who watched (and participated in) the demonstration.

SPVT Ongoing Activites

We  are currently organizing a school Demonstration Team.   We will have regular scheduled practices so we can be ready to go to different schools and/or community functions to allow Soo Bahk Do to become more visible in the community.

In 2005, our school website was established.  Since then, we have become much more visible in the community.  The site has been an excellent source of information for both established students and those interested in Soo Bahk Do.  Several students have joined our school as a direct result of seeing the website and then using the contact information located on the site.  We have also been able to keep in touch with students who have moved out of the area.  Some former students have also rekindled an interest in training as a result of reading the website.
