Spotsylvania Soo Bahk Do

Welcome to the Spotsylvania Soo Bahk Do Website! Our instructor is Master Sharon Elder-Hauger, a 4th Degree Master Instructor. Sa Bom Nim Elder-Hauger has been training in the martial arts for over 20 years under the direction of Sa Bom Nim Russell Colston, a 6th degree Master. She has taught for Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation for over 17 years. In addition, Sa Bom Nim Elder-Hauger also teaches classes at the Spotsylvania YMCA located in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

5 Moo Do Values*

1.  History  (Yeok Sa)
 
History is a chronological record of significant events often including an explanation of their cause.
 
2.  Tradition  (Jon Tong)
 
Tradition is that which is inherited, established, or transmitted and passed on as a customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior; the handing down of information, beliefs, and customs.
 
3.  Philosophy  (Chul Hak)
 
Philosophy is a set of ideas or beliefs relating to a particular field or activity; an underlying theory, a system of values by which one lives; the most general beliefs, concepts, and attitudes of an individual or group.
 
4.  Discipline/Respect   (Neh Khang Weh Yu)
 
Discipline is the study or practice of a subject using a specific set of methods, terms and approaches.
 
Respect is the objective, unbiased consideration and regard for the rights, values, beliefs and property of all people; deference and courteous regard for people's feelings.
 
5.  Technique  (Ki Sool)
 
Technique is the manner in which technical details are treated or as basic physical movements are used.   Techniques are very visible elements of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan.

Outgrown your Uniform?
If you have an old uniform you'd like to donate either send me an email by clicking on my email link below or let Sa Bom Nim know!   We keep the "recycle" box at Salem Elementary school.

School News

We will be having a school picnic on Saturday, August 30th, at Loriella Park, from 12 pm until 3 pm.  There will be games, food and good times!   Bring your family!  There will be a sign up available at school for your potluck dishes.  If you would like to help with the picnic (with games and/or ideas), please let Mrs. Carlyle know.  Soo Bahk!

There will be a demonstration on July 19th, 2008 from 1pm until 1:30 pm  (if you are demonstrating, please arrive by 12pm) at the Spotsylvania YMCA.  Senior members will be demonstrating their Soo Bahk Do techniques.  Also, the Full Armour of God Demonstration Ministry team will also be demonstrating.  Please come out and support them!  Soo Bahk! 

Registration for Parks and Recreation is from June 23- July 11, 2008  The Parks and Recreation next session starts on July 22 - August 28, 2008 . New YMCA classes start on July 12th.

Congratulations to the Fundraising team on raising $70 on the Mother's day basket, $65 on the Valentine's basket and $175 from the fundraiser!    We are currently raffling off a "Dinner and a Movie" basket.   This basket has a $50 gift certificate to Lone Star Steak House and two movie passes!  Soo Bahk!

The 122nd Region 3 Dan Shim Sa will be held in October  in West Virginia.  We will have several Cho Dan Candidates and Mr. Blader will be testing for his E-Dan.  There will be a Gup Clinic on Saturday, before the testing, open to all students.  Please plan on coming so you can support our candidates and train with other Region 3 Soo Bahk Do practitioners.
 
 
The next Gup Shim Sa (testing) will be held on  Thursday, July 10th, at Salem Elementary School at 6pm.  Red belts not testing are required to attend and assist with the Shim Sa.

On October 27th, 2007, we hosted the 120th Region 3 Dan Shim Sa at Salem Elementary School!  From our school, Dan B. (tested for his Cho Dan), Mrs. Carlyle (tested for her E Dan) and Kyo Sa Houpt (tested for his Sam Dan).  There was an instructors clinic Friday night and a Gup clinic Saturday morning.  Then, after the testing, several of us went to Otani's for food and fun!  Congratulations to all the Dan candidates and thanks to all who particpated to make this a fantastic Region 3 Soo Bahk Do event.

Kyo Sa Norris and Mr. Wassink have both served our country in Iraq.  Kyo Sa Norris is still serving, while Mr. Wassink has returned.  Thank you both for all you have done!  It's great to have Mr. Wassink back in training and we pray for a safe a speedy return for Kyo Sa Norris.  Soo Bahk!
